Scottish Government Surveys

Location: Scotland

GLM carried out a programme of surveys of government buildings at thirty sites across Scotland. The objective of the surveys was to investigate alternative ways to improve the energy performance of these buildings, develop energy efficiency action plans and drive down their carbon footprint. In order to achieve this we identified and recorded existing building fabric construction and condition and calculated U-values.

Moving forward, we considered the options for improvement in terms of what is achievable, practicable, cost effective, suitable in terms of planning and the way buildings are used. From this we reported on the achievable improvement in U-values, the reduction in energy expenditure, the reduction in CO2 output and a basic payback on expenditure.

While we were at it, we updated the asbestos registers for each building in line with the Asbestos Management Plans thus ensuring best value from the surveyors time on site. Recommendations will be used to ensure these buildings are energy compliant before the 2018 deadline outlined in the 2011 Energy Act.

"GLM provided a very good service with regards to attending the site in order to scope and present a quote to manage client expectations. We received excellent communication from GLM's team throughout the planning and attendance."
