Drummond Lodge
Our Mission
Adapting a Victorian Lodge to meet the aspirations of our Scottish Expat clients. After living abroad for many years they were looking to return to Scotland and so, created their dream space for retirement.
Drummond Lodge is a Victorian period property located in Callander, gateway to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs. Our clients purchased the property whilst still living and working overseas, with the vision of adapting it to form their dream home for retirement and returning to live in Scotland.
GLM worked with the client to understand their vision and provided several design options for the planned alterations. The key areas for improvement included the dark and cramped living spaces at the rear of the property, and the lack of ensuite for the master bedroom.
GLM planned for the works to be undertaken under two phases. The first phase works involved the conversion of a bedroom into an ensuite bathroom and dressing room, adjacent to the master bedroom. The result being a spacious and stylish bathroom with a statement copper freestanding bath.
The second phase of work involved securing planning permission for the extension to the rear of the property, and remodelling the space internally to create an open-plan living space with kitchen, dining and living room, utility room, pantry and WC.
The extension features crittal-style windows and doors, which let an abundance of light into the house and connects the indoors with the outdoors. Light also floods through the cupola on the roof of the extension, brightening the dining space.
What was once a dark, cramped and uninviting space has been completely transformed.
