Craighall Castle

Discipline: Building Surveying
Location: Perth & Kinross

Our Mission

Our specialist building surveying team were instructed to undertake a pre-acquisition building condition survey of Craighall Castle. We were then appointed to design, specify and project manage the repairs to the external fabric of the building.

Craighall Castle dates back centuries and throughout the years many generations of the previous owner’s family have added to it, creating a very complicated building.

GLM undertook a detailed pre-acquisition building condition survey with budget costs identifying a multitude of issues with the roof coverings, rainwater goods, chimneys, stonework, drainage, windows and other building defects. The present owner recognised the importance of the specialist technical issues involved in Scottish slating practice, stonework repairs and leadwork as well as dealing with the local construction industry.

Subsequently, GLM was appointed to design and specify a project to restore the external envelope of the building and to competitively tender and project manage the works.

GLM produced a meticulous quantified description of works for contractors to price, provided detailed drawings of the roof and annotated photographs of the works required to the stonework.

Our specialist design and project management skills were deployed to this complex and highly technical project to rectify the building defects, and manage the three key issues of time, cost and quality.
