Discipline: Architecture
Location: East Lothian

Our Mission

Extending a charming road-side cottage in rural East Lothian to create a new kitchen and living space.

Our client’s relocated to East Lothian, purchasing a charming, traditional, stone bungalow. As part of their renovations they wished to create more space, but were constrained by the existing layout of the property. Their brief for GLM was to create a new kitchen and dining space.

As such, GLM designed a larch clad extension to the rear of the building. This opened up the entrance hall and draws you through to the bright and airy extension, where the kitchen and dining room are located.

Our addition is linked to the existing building with floor to ceiling windows, which connects you with the outdoors as you pass. The design also maximises the natural light flow into the space, ensuring that the kitchen is always a welcoming space to be.

The extension not only adds aesthetic value, but practical value too. GLM incorporated useful elements for our client’s day to day life making dog walking, and enjoying their garden as easy as possible. This was achieved by creating a small utility space, with direct access to the garden.
