Brief and Response
In the course of everyday living this impressive Edinburgh townhouse (Peddie and Kinnear 1867-9) had lost some of its sparkle and the time had come for some much needed upgrading and refurbishment. The external fabric was in relatively good overall repair, but internally services and finishes were worn and tired. GLM was commissioned by a client of taste and discernment who appreciated the underlying period quality of the building and had a clear vision of how it might be revived.
The remit was to design and project manage improvements to the garden level flat and the main part of the house. The garden flat was remodelled and new French doors were installed at the rear to give direct access onto the garden. A smart new ensuite, kitchen and heating system all come together to create a delightful flat that could either operate as part of the house or separately. In the main part of the house a new heating system, upgraded bathroom facilities a stunning new kitchen
and tasteful decorations complete the perfect picture. It has been a pleasure to work with a client who perfectly understands how a building like this can be brought to the peak of perfection as one of the most stylish and comfortable houses in the west end of the New Town.
