 ACKERGILL TOWER

Ackergill TowerOf our portfolio of AmaZing Venues they don’t come much more amaZing than Ackergill Tower in Caithness, Kinettles House in Angus and Carberry Tower just outside Edinburgh.  However great though these places were when we took them over, to deliver a world-class visitor experience at each of them has required the creation of an amaZing team.

GLM, the Edinburgh based architectural and project management practice, has been a key part of this team in Scotland bringing with them their considerable experience and expertise in the adaptation of historic buildings and destination planning.  In the past couple of years they have delivered the brilliant new Sinclair Palace function and events space at A-listed Ackergill Tower and have converted the previously disused Stables block into spectacular additional guest accommodation.

GLM have worked hand-in-glove with our in-house team, showing a deep understanding of the quality that we were determined to achieve and the heritage constraints and opportunities that the existing buildings presented.  They have also helped us with statutory compliance when we have undertaken projects ourselves. GLM provide an unusual, and for us particularly useful, combination of design and project management services embracing both historic buildings and the practical and commercial challenges involved in creating AmaZing Venues for our visitors.

THE INN AT JOHN O’ GROATS

The Inn

I won’t pretend that our Technical Services Department is anything other than a hard task master.  They look for outstanding results, in double quick time and won’t pay over the odds.  The team at GLM came up with a design for our John O’Groats project that excited my people and the planners but, as Chief Financial Officer, frightened the life out of me.  We had a budget that we just had to hold to.  GLM have been relentless.  They have not only delivered this exciting design, they’ve done it within the cost and time parameters we set down and they have kept me in the picture all the way through.  They’ve also delivered on a host of other large and small projects and assignments besides.  I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone getting into the scary business of investing in a building project.

“My relationship with GLM spans a few years now and it’s really good to work with people who bridge the gap between creativity and practicality.  My job, as Chief Operations Officer at Natural Retreats is to deliver amazing holiday experiences to our customers.  To do that I have to have amazing product to offer them and that’s just what I get from GLM.  They provide me with buildings that are not only great visually, they are also well thought out and well put together: a joy to operate.  In addition the journey getting there has been and continues to be thoroughly enjoyable.  Great people to work with.
