Grand Designs – Not Grand Disasters
GLM is set to host our inaugural seminar to reveal the secrets of successful building projects. The free event, which will be held at Edinburgh’s RICS Headquarters on 17 April, will tackle the key issues surrounding the planning and execution of small to medium sized building projects. Attendees will learn how to navigate common pitfalls and brush up on due diligence.
Speakers will include GLM Directors, David Gibbon (MRICS MCABE) and David Johnson (RIAS RIBA), and special guest speaker, Hazel Brown, Director at leading Financial Planning and Investment Advice firm, Carbon Financial. Speakers will be on hand to discuss real life building project experiences, both good and bad, and the important learnings to take away from these.
David Gibbon, Director and conservation accredited building surveyor at GLM, commented: “TV series such as Grand Designs have done a lot to inspire a generation in design. What they don’t do, however, is provide useful information on how to tackle a building project.
“This seminar is all about demystifying the process, helping developers and agents to avoid the often very costly pitfalls of inadequate due diligence and concept design.
“We have seen more and more first time developers taking on building projects in Scotland and have had a number of people come to us with major problems that had not been foreseen in the planning stages.
“The seminar will give people a snapshot of all the components required to provide both an enjoyable process and successful outcome for developers.”
