GLM APPOINTED CONSTRUCTION MANAGERS FOR FIFE ARMS HOTEL REFURB

GLM has been appointed to provide construction management services for the refurbishment of the historic Fife Arms Hotel in Braemar. Initial site works are now underway and we are delighted to share what is in store for the future of this important building.

The Fife Arms Hotel was purchased in early 2015 by Highlands Hospitality Ltd., the hospitality branch of Swiss art dealers, Hauser & Wirth – a major player in the global contemporary and modern art scene with a reputation for backing and establishing emerging artists throughout the world. The Fife Arms Hotel isn’t Hauser & Wirth’s first building conservation project as they recently restored and transformed the 18th century Durslade Farmhouse into upscale, quirky and unexpected holiday accommodation to complement their world class gallery and art centre in Somerset.

Following the success of the regeneration of the Inn at John O’Groats, GLM was approached by Highlands Hospitality Ltd. to be involved in similar efforts to reinvigorate the Fife Arms Hotel. A complete refurbishment aims to re-establish this iconic building as a community hub offering exceptional cultural and nature-orientated activities for guests and locals.

Working with a multi-disciplinary team of some of the UK’s finest designers and consultants including Moxon Architects and Russel Sage Studio, GLM will act as construction managers directly managing the procurement and construction process on behalf of the client.

This type of contract is a departure from the traditional main contractor route that most developers are used to, but it allows for more transparency, is better served to align the objectives of the client and trade contractors and can provide more flexibility in terms of overlapping the design, procurement and construction phases.  GLM were construction managers on the John O’Groats regeneration and are currently construction managers for the refurbishment of a Grade ‘A’ Listed castle in East Lothian. In both cases, GLM was also the architect.

The project will bring something completely unique to Braemar and the Scottish highlands and GLM is delighted to be involved. For the full press release issued by Highlands Hospitality Ltd., click here.
