Congratulations to all Finalists in the Helping It Happen Awards 2020

Scottish Land and Estates organise the Helping it Happen Awards seeking to celebrate rural Scotland and those who are helping it thrive through sharing and recognising good news stories from up and down the country,  both big and small. Despite all that has happened in 2020, these awards are going ahead and GLM are delighted to be the headline sponsor this an unusual and challenging year, particularly for rural Scotland.

The finalists have now been announced with a huge array of nominations. GLM’s Managing Director, Ian McKee, had the privilege of being on the judging panel and was hugely impressed with the diversification, adaptability and versatility of the businesses based in rural Scotland – definitely not something we should be underestimating. Unfortunately the usual black tie dinner event can’t go ahead this year, but tune in to the virtual event going live on Youtube on 30th September at 12noon to hear from Ian and an array of other guests alongside finalists and share in the success of the winners. Good luck to all the finalists!

Sarah-Jane Laing, chief executive of Scottish Land & Estates, said: “More than ever, this year has typified what Helping It Happen is all about – individuals, rural businesses and organisations going the extra mile to make a positive contribution to society. This work benefits us all by sustaining rural employment, providing high quality housing or helping Scotland meet its climate change goals.

“The pandemic, and particularly the lockdown period, has given rise to many inspiring stories as people use their own talents, time and money to support their local communities. This is reflected in many of the nominations, particularly in the regional community champion awards. The nominations have been as strong as ever this year and we are pleased that the Helping It Happen awards are firmly established as a way of recognising how Scotland’s diverse rural businesses and organisations are making a vital contribution.”
