Brief and Response
This small cottage in the Scottish Borders was due for an upgrade. The owners approached GLM to design a contemporary extension that blended seamlessly into the aesthetic of the existing building. They wanted to bring more light and accessibility to the cottage while still respecting the traditional look and feel. Using natural traditional materials and making
reference to the arched windows to the front of the cottage, GLM’s architects designed a two storey contemporary extension that has transformed this house into a superb family home. As a listed building, GLM ensured that planning and listed building consent was obtained in addition the appropriate building warrants before commencing works.
And, in addition to carrying out works on their private dwelling, the owners commissioned GLM to convert an existing potting shed nearby into a small cottage to let out as holiday accommodation.
