GLM is set to host Part 2 of our three part seminar series on the secrets of successful building projects. This free event, which will be held at Edinburgh’s RICS Headquarters on 9 October, will tackle the key issues surrounding the planning and execution of small to medium sized building projects.
We took you through the early stages of a building project in Part 1 – now attendees will learn how to navigate common pitfalls associated with executing your project. Topics include how to create the perfect project brief, assemble a brilliant design team and choose the right procurement route.
Speakers will include GLM Architect Neil McAllister (MSc RIAS RIBA) and guest speakers Stuart MacPherson, Director and Principal Designer at engineering consulting firm Irons Foulner, and Paul Brooks of Edinburgh quantity surveyors Cromarbrooks. Speakers will be on hand to discuss real life building project experiences and the important learnings to take away from these.
David Gibbon, Director and conservation accredited building surveyor at GLM, commented: “TV series such as Grand Designs have done a lot to inspire a generation in design. What they don’t do, however, is provide useful information on how to tackle a building project.
“This seminar is all about demystifying the process, helping developers and agents to avoid the often very costly pitfalls of inadequate due diligence and concept design.
“We have seen more and more first time developers taking on building projects in Scotland and have had a number of people come to us with major problems that had not been foreseen in the planning stages.
“The seminar will give people a snapshot of all the components required to provide both an enjoyable process and successful outcome for developers.”
