The GLM team is celebrating after receiving a special mention at last night’s presentation of the RIAS Doolan Award for Architecture for our transformation of the Inn at John O’Groats. The £2.5m project, commissioned by luxury travel company, Natural Retreats, saw GLM revive the derelict Victorian hotel into a desirable modern attraction and highly visible landmark.
The Doolan Award, which recognises Scotland’s very best building projects, was presented to the vibrant Advocate’s Close and was held at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh. GLM previously took home two RIAS Awards for our work on the Inn at John O’Groats back in June, which meant the project was automatically entered for the Doolan Award.
Commenting on the special mention, GLM’s Managing Director Ian McKee said: “We are thrilled to have had our work recognised at this incredibly important awards ceremony especially against such strong competition. The John O’Groats project was an incredible opportunity to showcase our skill and expertise in regeneration and architectural conservation and we are honoured to have received a commendation from the judges. 2014 has been an incredibly strong year for GLM and we are really excited about continuing to work on projects that truly showcase our commitment to innovation and providing bespoke solutions.”
The awards season will culminate on 25 November when the Inn at John O’Groats goes up against a number of international hotels in the adaptive re-use category at Sleeper Magazine’s European Hotel Design Awards in London.
